difficult to see the breach between combustion chamber and cooling canal.
If lots of material is corroded away on the gasket you can be pretty sure that it has been leaking somewhere.
You can be 100% sure that the front head gasket is at the same stage as the rear one.
I know the oil cooler is darn expensive but I wouldn't dare to put everything back together for a customer without replacing it, since I know how bad they are.
I heard of someone that actually bypassed the engine oil cooler. This I wouldn't do on a customer car since I have no clue of the implications of removing a cooling source for the engine.
Since you do the work yourself on your own car, you are free to experiment all you want. Just cut the pipes and weld them together.
