I have not gone as far as getting up to 40 then braking down to 20 for a few times in a row (to bed the pads) because both my pads and rotors are brand new (Brembo flat-faced). I wanted to wait until 500 miles had passed before any hard-braking was performed.
The pads did not come in the original box because I bought them from eBay, along with a slightly-used BPC (for $35--what a steal!!!). The pads were still shrink-wrapped with the original "AXXIS" markings, so I know they are Axxis. Would the Deluxe or MM marking be on the back of the pad?
I am amazed at how well these pads grip when warm. In fact, the other day I needed to stop short, and the fronts gripped so fast and hard, that the back end started to move-out slightly (the back pads are still oem Saab). What does bother me is that in the morning, the first few stops feel like I'm on ice--almost like the pads are pressing against the rotor, but not gripping it, allowing it to slide around the pads.
I will be in need of rear brakes, and wanted to get the same as the front, but I need to know if they're Deluxe or MM.
Sounds like I do have the MM, though. There's lots of dust (which the Deluxe do not leave behind), and the braking-feel seems typical of the MM.
As for the MM not having a problem when cold when being used with cross-drilled rotors, I would believe that. C-D rotors tend to "bite" into the pads, and this was definitely evident when I matched my Zimm c-d rotors with PBR Deluxe pads. Those pads lasted about 10K miles. This is one reason I switched from c-d rotors back to flat-faced. The other reason was because of the groaning noise that would come from the front when braking hard.
Now I'm a little nervous that I will not have solid braking power when the brakes are "cold". How do others that have MM deal with this issue?
