Hi Thomas
In your Sound system , the sound from the TUNER/FM/AM goes down to the Cd Player ,if their is one , and at that point the cd player picks which signal goes back up to the radio etc.. problem is that in the the pre 94 radios there are problems in the radio internal preamp and problems in the cd pre amp that will give you almost the same problem--Static , lost of sound quality , popping and no sound, wont take code( normally the cd player)etc... The radio had several bad caps (labeled H3-17 on top ) installed in the preamp section. The cd deck has Some SMD caps that ( about 17 ) that need to be replaced. After ten years I believe its best to have both refurbished
But if you want to figure out which unit is causing the immmediate problem install the (bypass) shorting plug part number 40 85 197 (sold by us or saab)at the end of the red radio cable, if the sound returns its the cd player that is bad. but remember if both units are going bad iit might be hard to isolate ,thanks Wasyl
