Little plastic (clevis) pin from timing cover inside ?

In the process of replacing the timing and balance shaft chains and gears, on my 94 CSE engine, a small plastic pin (like a clevis pin) fell out of somewhere. Its about 1/8 inch in diameter 1 1/8 inches long. The flanged end has a slot in it. It appears to have come from inside the timing cover as it has the redish brown color of all the other components inside the timing cover. Does anyone out there know what it might be ?
thanks in advance
