That pin cannot escape if the tensioner is intact.
Have you removed the 12mm cap on timing chain tensioner and removed the spring inside the tensioner.
Check to see if the plastic pin fits inside the spring.
That pin is mostly used to hold the spring and tensioner together when installing the tensioner. It's suppose to be a hole in one end of the pin to acommandate a clip.
