BPC swapping question

Howdy,
After experiencing what I assumed was base boost on my 97 aero, I swapped the BPC valve out of my friends 96 900 SE. After doing this, my boost was completly unbridled and going often into the black. Flooring the throttle usually caused the over boost switch to kick in. Are the BPC's calibrated differently for the two models? constant overboost is fun, but i couldnt imagine it's healthy for the car. Any ideas?
Thanks
