I'm going to try to answer all the questions and I appreciate everyone's input!
The car has 108k miles, I just bought it 2 months ago, I think it had been sitting for a while before the previous owner decided to sell it
Yes, I did notice the tensioner, but I had already ordered a masterlink chain, so I am going to do that after I get it back together
I did use Bar's Leak with MAJOR ISSUES resulting, this stuff really caused me problems beyond losing coolant that I won't go into now
New thermostat is on its way from eeuroparts
I have decided to take the head to my friends machine shop in seattle (boeing). We're going to put it on a class 4A flat stone (big stuff!) put some feeler gauges under it. I'll try to get some pictures of this process.
The injector tip: I posted a message about this once before, this thing was missing when I did an earlier procedure, I think it's been gone for a while. The car ran almost perfect prior to the head gasket procedure given a little white smoke until warm up. However if it is not perfect after I get it back together that injector is going to have to be replaced. I imagine the orange tip atomizes the spray a bit. I still have the washer and rubber seal for that hole. Now that I think about it, I should replace the injector o-rings...ahh.
Since this is my first head job and I want to bite off as little as possible in this process, and the car ran very well before I started, I really don't want to take the head to a head shop. More reasons for this: money, time, and I trust the original old saab work over some head shop that I don't know that well. Maybe I'm stupid, but I also read through a very interesting article about rebuilding a head that convinced me that to do it right would cost way too much. Here's a link to that article:

Thanks for all your help, hope I've answered all the questions, I'm off to Seattle.
