Surface preparation, rather than the glue, might be the issue here. If there is old glue or foam-type material, the glue may be bonding to that, which is then coming apart, allowing the veneer to peel off. I don't know what to suggest to get the old stuff off other than scraping, sanding, or finding a junked one that didn't have anything attached there - my 9000CS is naked plastic. You have to clean up the underside of the wood as well.
I used DAP/Weldwood Contact Cement to attach the rubber rear spoiler on my old Alfa Spider, as the embedded speednuts were completed rusted away. It stayed attached for years, car has since been sold. If you use this, follow the directions exactly and be VERY sure about placement of the object - there is no second chance with it.
