Came with (brand new) stock OEM Walker exhaust system. Cat was plugged up some, and caused a meltdown of heatsheild, so that was removed and straight pipe was installed. (AMAZING how it melted the sheild away, no rust, just melted it away...right to the floorboard) I will replace that sheild this summer when I have accesss to a sheild and a lift. There will not be NEARLY as much heat there now.
As for the rest, we left the middle muffler, and removed the rear. In place of the rear, we put a 18"x3.5" angle cut stainless tip on the rear. It looks simply awesome. I was not hot on the idea, but once I saw it mounted i like it a lot...HOWEVER the sound has to be desired...
It is terrably loud, especially the dam droning sound at constant highway speeds. I am going to take it back out there, but need assistance on what to do...
1- What muffler provides the most muffling effect? I now hear that the rear is the muffler, and the middle is simply a resonator with little sound deading built in compared to the rear. Should I add remove tip, add rear and remove center?
2- Adding a cat at this point is not going to happen. Before removing the rear muffler, we started car with both mufflers in place and it was totally quiet. So if that is what I end up doing, thats fine.
3-Would removing the 18"x3.5" tip and going straight 2.5" pipe out the back sound alright?
4-He suggested keeping the setup as is now, but adding a Glasspack to where the cat was, or just behind there. This would mean, glasspack, middle muffler, and tip. He says it will quiet the entire thing down, and bring it to where he thinks I want it, but I hate to throw more $ into the setup, only to end up scraping the idea...
I basically use the car for highway and want a good sound, but not that annoying drone. My main question is #1, as I want to find what one is the most effective. Looking for some help before I head back down there tommarow and start hacking things up again...
Def driving the 900 LPT right now, cannot stand that dam sound/smell of rice cooking;-)
