HELP, rear brakes are smoking after pads/rotors replace

Hi BB,
today while replacing pads and rotors on my wife's `95 9KCS could not get a driver side caliper piston to retract - had to use C-clamp, but even that was not enough, had to shave some pads thickness (what a shame) to fit. Did that , assembled everything to find that it was hard to turn a wheel. Took it for a short ride to find that that side was smoking.
Now, what do I do?
- shall I replace the rear caliper?
- Is it really a caliper? how do I check?
- anybody has a writeup on caliper replacement? In particular, how do I disconnect a brake line from caliper body and clamp the line? The line seems so hard that it may break when clamped, any tricks?
- do I touch a bleeder valve at all (better not it seems very rusted)
Thanks a lot for your help
