This morning while trying to hustle out the door to work, I jumped in my '92, which was sitting in the driveway, to get my V1 and some other little stuff. I had broken an exhaust hanger rallycrossing yesterday, the car is still very mud-covered, and the AC is dead. So I figured, nice sunny hot day, Aero with working AC seems like a good option...
As I sat down, I heard glass crinkling, and looked in the mirror, to see an 18" hole blown in the back window Some punk-ass kids had come up to the house, pulled up a 8 x16" patio block, and launched it thru my back window!!!! Bastards also hit my neighbor's 2 week-old Taurus company car, as well as two other cars further up the street. Fortunately, the Aero was safely in the garage, and they didn't hit wife's Town & Country, or neighbor's mother-in-law's Corvette convertible. Plus, dumbasses didn't notice the V1, or all the CD's sitting on the seat. On the downside, some punks caused thousands of dollars of damage & got off scot free.
So returning home after my 18hour (so far-on call til 8am) crappy day, I'm at a bit of a loss as to best approach to fixing this problem. Unfortunately, I stopped paying collision on the car since it's got ~200k & starting to rust. I looked on Car-Part.com, & saw a good range of prices, mostly 200-400 range, for the entire hatch.
Which brings up an unrelated question- how does Goldwing stay in business? Does anyone actually buy stuff from them? They list a hatch at $1700!!!!! Next highest I saw was $400. How much crack are they smoking? That's probably more than the car's worth!!
I'm assuming that, aside from the Goldwing idiocy, a used complete hatch is probably the way to go here. Anyone have a lead on a Platana Gray hatch in good condition??
