Hi Tim,
Interestingly, I had a similar experience to you - I previously owned a 1991 900 2.1 litre non-turbo (140hp). I drove SaabKen's '93 9000 CSET (200hp). Yowza. Granted, I had never really *driven* a 900 Turbo, so perhaps I didn't give the 900 a fair enough chance, but within a couple of weeks, had jumped ship and bought a '93 9000 Aero (225hp!) Quite a jump from my 900. Then, after about a month of sitting idle, I drove my 900 again. I found myself missing some of the quirkiness, and the tighter steering, but really, the 9000 is a superior car in basically every way. Again, I say this having never really given' 'er in a 900 Turbo or SPG...
As for your headlight oddity, I had the same problem on my 900. I believe the motors for the headlamp wipers were hosed. I jammed the wipers underneath the headlamps and was done with it - looked better than sticking straight up, and was cheap ;)
I suspect the reason they would flap around is due to them blowing about at highway speeds.
Good luck sorting it out.
