1. The AC is cycles on and off and this will cause a sudden drop in rpm and a bit of a rough idle but it should smooth out as th idle is compensated. The idle will always be a bit different when the AC is run because it is putting load on the engine.
2. Classic symptom of a vacuum leak because it is bleeding off after peak boost level. The fact you are getting into the striped band(assuming your gauge is accurate) means you are likely getting more than base boost. Unplug the electrical connection to the BPC valve on top of the radiator and if your boost level is identicle, you are getting base boost and it's either a bad BPC, ECU or the pin on the watgate fell off(I think this causes base boost) After the checking PVC valve, check the hooter valve and then all vacuum hoses.
3. I am not sure how abrupt your are, but as the car downshifts to a lower gear you wil notice the "engine braking effect" at least I do on my '97 CSE-T A/T but nothing really abrupt.
