Thanks -the main clue here was that it was only in front right speaker. I did as you advised and pulled cd unit out using special tools. I gently wiggled all connections and the hum is gone!! this really makes my day because the car is my audiophile refuge now that the girlfriend complains of moderate home listening volumes on my Clements speakers at home.

I noticed the DIN plug hanging back there and same connection near attenna in trunk - is a 6-cd player addition as easy as plug and play? Perhaps you know about this? I take it a remote control operates such a unit? I am happy overall with the Clarion/ Harmon Kardon system in this car and may invest in a 6-cd changer into the trunk. It looks as though the DIN will supply audio and power in one pre-wired system?
