Like David said, it's basically a concentrated solvent wash of the injectors & intake path (if he's done it right). I had this done on my 9³ about a year ago for a cold-start stumble (it was the BG "system" cleaning machine), but noticed no change in my problem. It was over $100 for me, so $40 doesn't sound too bad IF it was the same process.

And, like David also said, that price doesn't sound unreasonable for a spliced-in "universal" 3-wire sensor. The OE one for my 900 costs about $250, while the "universal" (from SobStory) only cost me $35. An extra $25 for your mechanic to splice it in sounds like a bargain if he's charging the same hourly rate they get here.

Since you've got some time before your next smog check, I'd definitely run some Auto-Rx thru it now. I've linked some before/after emissions info from their site, & the home page is Auto-Rx.com. The stuff works better in some oils than in others. I choose to only run a premium full syn (Group IV/PAO) oil in my 9³ (both 900s are non-turbo), so I wouldn't recommend anything lower-grade than a Group III syn in a Saab turbo. I think Shell's 5W-40 Rotella T Syn would be my first choice in a Group III oil, since it's got a good viscosity range & a great additive package. If you're really into non-synthetics, run a good 15W-40 oil like Delvac 1300, Delo 400, or Pennzoil Long Life. Saab's OE 5W-30 syn blend would also be a good choice here. But after Auto-Rx, definitely run full syn.
