It's 94 2.3T CSE auto. There is not a lot of oil, just some traces, but also fumes-like smell, so I suspect engine oil. You mentioned oil leak in radiator - I heard about Auto Tranny fluid mixing with coolant (apparently due to coolant with phosphate softening the solder on the AT pipe going through the radiator) when I had 86 9000T - it was resulting in AT failure (BTW - my 1986 AT failed/got replaced due to a loose nut inside and not coolant problem. Not sure what caused replacement of AT on my current car :-).

But in summary the oil is dark, so it's likely engine. Previous owner had radiator failure which overheated engine which warped head - hence a new radiator, new head, gasket etc. 20k ago when I bought this car.

I don't want to use BL this time (I used it for the standard SAAB leaking heater cores - replaced 2 on 1986 - now 94 has a metal core as replacment so it should not leak). Speaking of heater - the temperature control just locked at high - fun for the summer :-)

I'm going to try head bolts tightening - any other place in the engine when coolant could mix with oil?
