A nice stage 1 or 2 chip ECU for hte aero and a bigger downpipe, would make a great car even greater imho;-)
I drove my brother's 2004 95 Aero the other day. Nice car, a little too civilzed for me at the moment. Very strong performenr on hte highway though, beautiful all around feel. However, I still believe there is no better saab yet than a mildly tuned mid 90's aero. I like the hair raising acceleration in my 2.0L, but I literally spend a couple hours twice a week keeping it in tune. I have a MSD system that dials ignition retard under boost from the cabin...sort of what you were implying, but not quite,,,,it's combinations like this---new technology mixed with old Saab technology, mixed with old Volvo technology, that are really fun when it is 'perfect' but are a machanics nightmare when it is slightly out of tune.......always looking for that sweet spot, either with idle, timing under boost, rate of boost rise, rate of ignition retard etc.......it's fun to tinker around, but a plug and play setup for a NG 9000 is getting awfuly tempting.
I am presently shopping for a silver low km 1997 Aero....if it can be found. Tough call, but then again I found my 88 in 1997 with 60 some odd thousand km;-)
I have no doubt a burnt chip has given your 86 a little get up and go. The LH 2.2 chip optimizes the A/f more precisely than from the factory...and a little more fuel on a lean running (from factory) saab does make quite a bit of difference.
go flames go
