Shorted O2 sensor fried my Trionic ECM?

Some weeks ago my indy replaced a bad O2 sensor in my '93 CSET, which had tripped the CEL. He told me that the O2 sensor was not only bad, but shorted. The new O2 took care of the CEL, but lo and behold it was back again within a day or two and codes for misfire also came up (engine has been running rough intermittantly for some time know -- my theory is that the bad O2 sensor prevented the system from picking up the misfire).
My indy hooked up "something" (I don't know specifically) to a scope and said the the O2 sensor is reading very lazy at low rpm; pick up the rpm and the O2 sensor responds. He thinks that the shorted O2 sensor fried the ECM (or part of it) and that it needs to be replaced.
Regarding the misfire, he tested the DI (it's fine), cleaned all of the grounds, changed a bad battery (new Interstate Megatron), flushed the injectors, put in some Techron, and replaced the spark plugs.
Of course, the CEL for O2 sensor (six flashes) is back, though hopefully not the misfire (engine definitely running better since after first day I picked it up (adaption run)). So question is could my Trionic really be toast because of the shorted O2 sensor? Could it be a bad EVAP canister purge valve or MAP sensor that are giving a false O2 CEL? What else could cause the lazy 02 sensor?
Just trying to be thorough and do my homework. Thanks for any advice.
