Patrick,
I just did my '93 Aero head gasket a few months ago. I didn't do the timing chain or guides...mostly because they are quiet, and, the car only has 50K miles on it. Why did the HG need doing, you ask...the previous owner let coolant stay in the car too long, changing it at mileage intervals, and not on the two-year max intervals, so the coolant did some damage to the HG.
I would recommend having the head machined flat if your doing this job. The HG rings have a tendency to gouge the aluminum of the head. At the very least, take it somewhere to be checked for flatness. I'd suggest taking it in to have it machined. That cost me $70.00 at the local Autoparts store's machine shop. That's cheap insurance to ensure that you'll get a good seal out of the new one IMHO.
Good luck.
~Peter
