So I go to my local AutoZone, picking up parts for my mom-in-law's car in order for me to do a complete tune-up this weekend (gotta keep her happy!), and I asked for a t-stat for a '95 Honda Civic. As it was handed to me, it appeared to be very similar to the ones I just installed into my '98 9000 and '93 900TC. I looked at the manufacturer stamped on the side, and 'lo and behold it showed: "MotoRad", the same as what was on the two I had purchased from my local Saab dealer two weeks ago. I asked the counter guy to look up a t-stat for a '98 9000, and sure enough, they have one made by MotoRad listed for $6.99. I paid $16.99 for the 9000 and $26.99 for the 900 (why the higher price: beats me) at the dealer!

When I was given the Saab t-stats by the dealer, I remember asking him why they did not stock Waxstat, which was oem in both cars when I pulled them out. He said they had changed suppliers, and that the ones he gave me were what Saab was using now in all their new cars.

I wanted an 89 degree t-stat for the 9000, and eEuroparts didn't have that temp. Granted, I could have gotten the 900 one there, but I wanted oem Saab t-stats, and I figured buying it at the dealer would have ensured that. Boy was I mistaken.

BTW: the Waxstat ones are much heavier and beefier than these newer MotoRad ones. Hope they last...

Joe
