Just as a background, I don't know much about Saabs. The previous cars I have experience with are an '84 Volvo 244 turbo, an '80 Triumph TR7, an '87 Volvo 244 NA, and a '76 Chevy Malibu Station Wagon.

Anyway, I just bought a used '96 9000CS lpt in Boston to use at college (Purdue for any engineers here) and promptly drove it to my home in NC (~750 miles). The car was fantastic throughout the trip, and after my father and I applauded ourselves for our excellent purchase, we did take note of a few issues that seemed a bit foreign to us. I thought I'd ask about them here as I've heard of this forum from some of my Saab friends.

1: Under heavy load (accelerator pushed very far down) in 3rd-5th gear, at about 3000rpm, the car lurches back. It's a hard lurch and from my research and the advice of friends, I have come to the conclusion that it is the fuel pump being disengaged for some reason (overboost?), but I did not think this happened on light pressure turbo systems. I am certain it is an lpt as there is no boost guage on the dash.

2: The car shudders a bit when letting off of the accelerator when in gear and at lower (below 2300) rpms. It's almost as if the car isn't sure if it wants to put pressure on the gearbox or not. Normally, I would blame the Universal Joint, but since this is a front wheel drive car, there isn't one and I have never owned a front wheel drive car until now so I am a bit sketchy on what causes that sort of motion.

We have given the car a strong look-over, and replaced the spark plugs with new NGKs (yes, spaced properly) and made sure that there were no obvious problems with the engine or turbo system. To the best of our knowledge, we do not know what is causing these problems. The issue with the fuel cutoff is especially confusing because it seems like this issue is mostly discussed on this forum in relation to full pressure turbos, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance!
