...with many of the opinions regarding this car for your "mechanically challenged son while away at college 1200 miles away." For my mech. challeged kids I'd go with a 900. They're a lower maintenance car. That said I love the 9000, but I know it'll need more than oil changes and an annual tune up! Even one in as great shape and well maintained as my '92 has had a seized rear caliper, burned-up a/c compressor and needed front disks in the last year. If I had taken that to a dealer each time that probably would have been close to $2000. As it was, getting rebuilt parts, etc and doing work myself it wasn't much under $1000. I can do it myself because I have extra cars to drive while I wait for the parts (and until I have a weekend to work on it.)
During that same year my daughter's 1986 900 needed a new headlight, and some power steering fluid (slow seep from the rack!)
If you want to cure his mechanical inability, look for a poorly maintained 9000 for him 8-]
