bypassing Pin 14 solely puts the ECU into "stick" mode, meaning it will use the pre-set specifications for a 5-spd. All safety features, a/f mixtures, knock detection, etc. will remain. It doesn't just allow the turbo to spin faster.
What is happening is that the ECU now thinks it is installed in a vehicle with a 5-spd, so it will allow the torque to be approx. 25 Nm higher, which in turn allows higher psi as well as hp. This is for the BSR ECU that I have. If I had a 5-spd, the ECU software would be doing EXACTLY as it is doing for my auto with Fuse 9 removed. It would be allowing the T25 to put out that high of a psi, that great of a torque-band, and that much hp. It does not matter whether or not you are driving a stick or auto when purchasing any ECU since the software is the same; it's just that Pin 14, when enabled, allows the ECU to follow the specs for an auto. This is not the case for a '98, however. In that year, the '98 stick came with the TD04, and the auto with the T25, so it does matter what tranny you have when purchasing the ECU. There is different software used for the TD04 (Aero) than there is for the T25 (CSE and auto Aero).
The only detriment to this scenario is the fact that these higher amounts are being applied to an autobox. How much the autobox can handle is still a mystery to all of us. Like I said, there are people here who have far greater amounts of power than I have, and are using them with an autbox, and all has been fine. Then there are those who have stock output, and the autobox died an untimely death due to whatever reason. It's Russian Roullete--you never know how long anything will last.
