I had a chance over the weekend to look into this problem and found that the pulsing was due to rust on the rotors. Over the past six weeks, the car has been stationary (on jackstands) and the weather has been quite rainy/damp. The rotors rusted up where the pads weren't touching and the pulsing was evidently due to the transition between no rust/rust areas. A couple of miles of driving cleaned up the rotors.
The last step of my repair was taking the car for an allignment, and afterwards I'm happy to say that it drives like new! Well, it should as practically all of the front wear parts ARE new.
Thanks for everyone's help.
