Still good after 12 months, but how to kill mice?

Probably no definite answer (plenty of advice in past posts on how to prep for long-term storage), but here is one datapoint: 12 months is my longest so far (garaged). Did not do any prep besides fill the gas tank and disconnect the Optima gel cell battery. After recharging the battery and topping up tire pressure, the car worked OK, though took a few more seconds to crank. I don't know whether a disconnected lead acid battery would be as forgiving of 12 months. The clutch hose-metal line crimp connection got disconnected catastrophically after one day, but I don't know if the 12 months of unuse caused or accelerated that.

Another car (not the Saab) got a wasp nest before (below) on the catalytic converter, and I think the engine area became the home of at least one mouse. Can anyone recommend mouse bait that really works. The one sold at Home Depot in packets (active ingredient Bromethalin) used to be regularly torn open and consumed, but I never saw any dead bodies. Nowadays, the packet isn't being torn open anymore. Maybe they all died, but I doubt it. There are mouse droppings all over the garage.
