on my wifes Chrysler minivan with the assistance of only Haynes publishing. May as well have been printed on toiletpaper. I would die for this kind of forum for DIY guys that own domestic cars other than mustangs. I guess that there is no such thing as a Chrysler enthusiast.
Here is a summary of what I had to do, sorry for the length.
Bear in mind the job was to replace a failed EGR valve. Anyway, one of the two EGR mounting bolts broke off at the head. They are screwed into the back side of the intake plenum, that is totally inaccessible with any kind of removal tool or drill....so I must the remove plenum. Out comes the intake filter, resonator, throttle body, vac lines, ignition coil, alternator, exhaust flange, mounting strut, disconnect fuel rail, ...still wont come out because some genius Chrysler engineer attached 3 cable harness rings to the back side of the plenum. Cannot access the bolts from under the car or in front, so out comes the wiper assembly and cowl box assembly, finally can get the last three wire harness rings off. All of this to replace a stinking EGR valve!!!!! Well, at least with all of this stuff out of the way I can finally replace the formidable original spark plugs (116K miles) that I could never get at without pulling the car to pieces, and rear valve cover gasket that began leaking 50K miles ago. Come to think of it, I had better fix a few things while I have the chance.
It is experinces like this that make me love the ease of working on my Saab. Perhaps Chrysler hasn't stuck their people with any short lived timing chains, but they appearently only design cars to be assembled in a factory and not worked on. Somtimes my Saab lets me down, but nothing like working on a Chrysler. Sorry for the long post. Just venting
Comparitively, I love working on my SAAB! Thanks to all of you here who have offered technical advice and $.02 on occasion.
