Hello everyone...
It's been a long time since my last post, and also a long time since i updated my website... http://www.geocities.com/griffin800/index.html ... anyways
I've got about 10psi at full throttle, and I've done so many mods to my 1990 9000 turbo that basically, this is unnacceptable for me. The car even FEELS like it's totally lacking, almost comparable to a NON TURBO altogether.
So, for those of you who don't know, my original engine was hydro-locked in a heavy rainstorm in orlando florida. I had a high performance custom rebuilt engine made at group9performance out in california. Many Many parts were replaced in the process, including all vaccuum lines, catalytic converter, turbo, manifolds, hoses and such. I got a new air intake from taliaferro and a new hyper-oost adjustable bypass valve also.
Basically, anything and EVERYTHING that had water pass through it was replaced... EXCEPT THE INTERCOOLER!
This lead me to think that it's got a ton of garbage in it, and it's possibly totally clogged. In my testing of the car, i closed the tubo wastegate completely, under closely watched conditions of course at my shop, and we let er rip. We still only got about 10 PSI at the most. Which lead my shop to believe the turbo itslef might not be working correctly, or possibly my exhause was clogged. But we had alrady replaced the cat, and the rest of the exhause system is the abbott racing 2.5" stailness steel kit, turbo back.
along with the low boost problem, it idles funny, which could possibly be a failing AIC, and i've got a replacement on the way. I also have a replacement BPC unit, or APC solenoid unit coming soon (the thing mounted on the radiator)
Both of the computers in the car have the MAPTUN chips in them... ecu and DI/AP box... i'm trying to think of anything else that would be helpful to you for a good diagnosis. engine temp is always normal, nothing leaks, EVERYHTINGS NEW! adjusting the bypass valve and wastegate had virtually no effect. Boost fluctuated between 6-10psi. never 12 which is stock right?
before all this work, it was FAST, but i had no gauge other than stock to measure with. I have the autometer 20 vac to 30 boost gauge now, run inline with the stock, which never ever goes into the red zone...
so i've blabbed for long enough. hope someone can make sense of this.
If any of you want to talk to me directly about this, i have a super cell phone plan, and i'd be glad to call someone to diagnos this. thanks in advance everyone!
