hello there,
I have a 1990 9000 turbo, a little different from your 96 i'm sure, however i'm guessing they put the alarm module in the same place. I hope it is the same for you, because in my opinion it's very easy to get to in my car. It's mounted inside of the dashboard, directly behind the glovebox compartment. In my car, to get at it, you have to completely remove the glovebox assembly altogether, but it's not as difficult as it sounds. when you open the glovebox door in my car, you can see hex key screws all around the outside of the glovebox. Remove all of them and pull it straight out. There is a yellow box visible now. In my car this was the alarm. I'm hoping they didn't mount the airbag control units in the same spot in your car! A small harness connected to the box was easy to remove, and the box itself was labled "M-92 alarm module". I'm not an expert, or a saab mechanic, but i can guess this much, the alarm doesn't work after you disconnect the wire harness. However, all door locks function the same. Hope this helps... -gavin
