I posted several time about my 93 940 failing NJ emissions on high NOx. Of course I did too on the Brickboard. I figures I got more response from my fellow SAAB owners for my Volvo than that on the Brick board from the brick owners, I cannot keep mum about this. My last post from the Brick board did not get a peep.

I thought it was a miracle. After struggling for almost a year, the 93 940 wagon finally passed NJ emissions. It kept failing on one item, high NOx. I was determined to give in and take her to the shop after one last try today. But it passed.

The cure? O2 sensor. After I replaced complete exhaust for the car, I used a Ford O2 sensor. Then I replaced it with a generic Bosch. What did it was the oem O2 sensor. Apparently the three wires on the Volvo O2 sensor can not be mixed, unlike the Bosch O2 sensor for SAAB where the two white wires can be mixed. It was a simple enough fix.

This lesson makes me wonder If I should not do the same on my 94 9k cs which fails the NJ State inspections on emissions with high NOx too. I dickered around with a generic Bosch by splicing to no avail. I think I'll try it with an oem. The $60 difference between a generic and oem is not worth the trouble of bad worksmanship splicing the wires.
