I pulled the blower housing out and also checked the evaporator housing (without dismantling it). The results:
-- There's open-cell foam on the firewall side of the air intake in front of the evaporator. Much of that had disintegrated, some of it lodged in the air filter, some of it got past the filter.
-- The open-cell foam in the blower housing was all coming off. This was, I think, the primary source of the problem. Just scraped the foam off the aluminum plate, reinserted the plate.
While I was in there, I noticed that my new (!!) heater core was already leaking. Thought I'd smelled a faint odor of coolant in the car from time to time. It was the cheaper of the two offered at eEuro. Going to ask Todd to issue me a credit on that one toward the metal-bodied one.
Still have the weird thing regarding the ACC fan speed control indicator lights, posted above. What could that be about?
Thanks again for your help!
