Urgent help needed -- serpentine belt

Just when I thought that I had gotten most of the bugs out of my '93 CSE, my wife was stranded on the parkway this afternoon. According to her description, she heard what sounded like leaves rustling in the ACC, then a high pitched squeal and the AC stopped blowing cold air. She turned off the AC and within 5 minutes she saw smoke coming from the hood and the temp. needle was in the red. Power steering went etc. She immediately pulled to the side of the road and called me.
This sounds like the serpentine belt. Any other thoughts? I know its probably impossible to tell without looking at it, but what's the chance that I escaped damage due to the overheat (head gasket etc.). According to my wife, the needle was probably in the red a maximum of 3-4 minutes.
I trust my indy (the car is being towed to him now), but always like to be armed with as much info. as possible. What else should I be thinking of or be asking him to look at? TIA.
