Belts do fail. But belts run on pulleys, and I've seen pulleys and tensioners fail more often.
At a minimum, I would expect a new tensioner piston, a new tensioner pulley, and idler pulley. This is a good thing - those should be replaced before this mileage. They may not be on a scheduled replacement list, but when a serpentine belt is replaced, a responsible mechanic will do an inspection of the pulleys and tensioner.
The other thing to make sure they check is the main pulley, aka "harmonic balancer." The serpentine belt is driven by this pulley. This pulley can also fail, and one failure mode is for the outside of the pulley to drift towards or away from the engine. This misaligns the belt and can cause it to jump off a pulley or just shred. So make sure that the mechanic has inspected and cleared the main pulley.
This car is 12 years old, and things do break. Unfortunately, the scheduled maintence items on a car are only a guide. A good mechanic will do more, will keep an eye on the other items while he/she/it is in there.
