i think the easiest way to check the vacuum line to the boost gauge, is:
when your car is off, look at you intake manifold, and notice the 3 pleaces where the small vacuum lines are attached. Pulloff only one line at a time to test, so you don't get confused about where they go... and suck on them. You shouldnt be able to pull any air through at all. One of those lines off the intake manifold goes to the boost gauge AND the bypass valve, by way a splitter in the line... so if that is the one with a leak, it would explain the lack of performance and gauge. The other two lines off the manifold go to the Fuel pressure regulator, and the valve cover housing (pcv valve)...post your results
if you're certain that the hooter is shot, let me know, i might have a used one that works for a decent price.
