Came out of the dentist's office today... Posted by AMG [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
to find all the coolant in my '93 Aero had spilled onto the street. The picture shows where the hose was that had burst. As you can see I have patched in a piece of 5/16ths coolant hose that is slightly too short and will need to be replaced again.
The original hose had a braided appearance and was unlike any other coolant hose in the engine bay. My question is can I use the regular hose I have or should I try to get a piece of the braided hose???
I assume this braided hose is a heat related reinforced type, but then again maybe it was nothing special? Could anyone check their car to see what type of hose is used? I'd really appreciate any insight.....
P.S.
As I was sitting there waiting for the tow truck I realized I was reverting to my old pattern of car helplessness.
"This is not the Saabnet way!" I said to myself.
Thinking quickly, I fashioned a temporary reinforcement of the blown hose using one of my socks and, of course, duct tape.
Across the street for a gallon of water, into the hatch for coolant and ten minutes later I'm at the parts desk of the good people at ABJ auto parts in Somerville, MA. A free piece of 5/16ths (thanks Tony!) and 10 minutes more and I'm on my way home with total expenditure of $962.00
$950 of which was for my dentist, who drives a 540i and whose Rolex dangles near your chin as he drills your mouth.
$10 for coolant and a tip for Tony, $2 for water, & a big thank you to Saabnet for giving me the MacGuyver mentality. -AMG
