Because my 94 cs was sidelined by hitting a curb going too fast off a ramp Sunday morning which destroyed the driver side control arm, I am driving wife's 94 cs turbo this week. I bought this puppy on Ebay two, maybe three years ago with a bad gas gauge which I never fixed. And I have forgotten about it being not my every day ride. Wife's way of knowing when to fill the gas tank is by reading the trip meter.
The gas needle stayed 3/4 all the time did raise my suspicision a little but I thought not much of it, until last evening. Coming home from work, late as usual, the car started losing power. I though to myself, no, not again! Not another car problem! I've had enough of them lately.
I looked at the trip meter, 465 miles. Then I realize my gas tank was probably empty. Squuezing the last bit of it out of the tank, I accelerated and coasted to a gas station to fill up.
26 mpg I got. I know this is nothing for Japanese cars. The 1981 Civic wagon I own more than 20 years ago used to get 50 mpg one summer. But for a SAAB in local driving? Unheard of. 465 miles a tankful is also a full 100 miles more than what my 94 cs gets. I know my cs sucks on gas mileage. I am sold on turbo, for gas mileage if not for power.
