I have a 94 9000 aero I just installed cross drilled and slotted rotors from raceshopper.com. Goodridge stainless steel brake lines, axxis semi metalic pads from eeuroparts, and flushed system with ATE super blue brake fluid. I can't seem to find out what the problem is with my brake system. It does not stop like I think it should. The first problem is the first stop I make after the car has been sitting is horrible. I have good brake pressure but the car just slides. It does not have that gripping feeling like after I have driven the car for a few minutes. I did read previos post and see it is an issue with Axxis metal master pads so I believe that is what I have. I ordered them from Eeroparts and the box looked different then theirs, so I was wondering if I got sent the wrong pads. The pads are definatly are semi metallic.
If I go like 50mph and nail the brakes I slide like 15 feet before I am able to lock up the tires and have the ABS kick in. If I then speed up and try again the next time I can't even get the ABS to kick in and just go sliding like crazy while I smell my brakes burning. I didn't think brakes should heat up that fast. If I try a 3rd time you better hope you have some distance as to not hit anything.
The next problem I am having is when I go around turns I can hear the slots rubbing. Like if I make a right turn I can hear my left tire ticking. Is this normal with slotted rotors or do I need to replace something that has worn out? The sound is not the CV joints as it just started after brake job and if I press brake slightly through turn it stops.
My brake pads appear to be ruffing up my rotors a bit much. My friend has a Jetta with slotted cross drilled rotors and his are still smooth. Mine are starting to get lines in them. Oh and his also stop good to the point you have to hold your seat. He used mintex red box pards.
I can say that I am happy with the stainless steel brake lines. I do not feel the peddle vibrate when the ABS kicks in and the peddle pressure increase is noticable.
My question are why does it now take so much peddle pressure for me to stop? Why are my rotors getting eaten alive. Did I choose the wrong pad for my set up? Why am I hearing a ticking around turns from my new rotors.
I do not mind if I have to change my pads every 15 - 20k miles as long as they work. Any ideas are appreciated.
