Make sure the throttle body 'butterfly' valve and intake tube is cleaned out with fuel injection cleaner thoroughly, as well as the AIC valve. The AIC is the gold/silver cylinder on top of the intake manifold, with two rubber hoses and an electrical connector going to it. Clean this out with FI cleaner also. I personally suspect the hooter valve, actually experiencing a stall first thing in the morning on my car, but not the rev up afterwards. For a final low-cost fix, you could try adjusting the decel dashpot. It's what determines how many seconds it takes for the engine to return to idle speed once you release the throttle. Stock is suppose to be four seconds, but for most people this is too long and seems weird, so the shop I go to sets it to about two seconds. It behind the intake manifold attached to the end of the throttle cable and looks like a flying saucer. It's been a while since I adjusted it. Basically to test the time (easiest done with engine off), pull the throttle cable, then release it. Count how long until the decel dashpot clicks. You adjust by moving the nut, if I recall?
Finally, it could also be your Air Mass Meter (AMM) is on the fritz, this is common for this year depending on the age of your car. You can get a remanufactured one for about $140 (after you send in the core), or new for about $300 I think. I had troubles with reman. in my car and went new, which my shop reports to last about three times longer anyhow.
Of course it could just be a vacuum leak. :)
Good luck,
Aaron Gilbert
