My '87 9000T is always pessimistic in the average MPG calculation. Now, my car has been a bit modified, with 24# injectors, RRFPR, and larger diameter tires (205/60/15 vs stock 205/55/15). In this [current] configuration, actual MPG by manual calculation comes out to be 1-3 MPG higher than what the EDU tells me.

That said, even when my car was completely stock, the average MPG was still a little bit pessimistic, though only slightly so, say 1 MPG or less, lower than actual MPG.

As for miles to empty, by the times it gets to 0, I almost always have at least 2 gallons left in the tank, though I rarely have it low enough for even the fuel light to come on, which is supposed to be ~2.7 gallons.
