clutch bleed nipple the whole thing turns?? no pedal no

I'm having slave cylinder issues, it seems, as my pedal is getting lower to the floor, sticking, and the master was done two weeks ago.
I thought I'd bleed to see if I could make it easier to drive the car for a couple days. A couple posts said to just loosen the nipple on the slave and keep the resevoir topped off and pump the pedal, and it will bleed the system.
Well, when I turned the nipple, the entire shaft down into the slave turned, which I didn't notice right away, and when I pumped the pedal, fluid came out both the nipple, it looked like, and at the base.
This doesn't seem right to me, and now I have no pedal to speak of.
I've never done this before, any suggestions. Is my nipple frozen to that shaft, or is that how it is supposed to work?
Any help??
