I was all happy because I had found a newer 9000 in the junkyard, with almost everrything intact. Then I got into my car and there was something wrong with the throttle. So I'm thinking, that figures, good car luck in the junkyard, immediately followed by bad car luck.
What was happening was a big increase in throttle effort. It was intermittent-- If I floored it for a second, then it would be ok, but it kept coming back. It felt just like limp home, but it wasn't. No lights were on, the AC worked, it idled fine. As time went on it got more constant. I got on the highway and tried the cruise. Ok as long as only a small throttle opening was needed, but if you needed more gas the cruise would quit.
So it seemed that the motor was able to actuate the throttle up to a small opening but then the cable took over. I started to wonder if the vacuum was pulling the backup cable all the way out of the way. Pulled over and sure enough, the vacuum line had come off the manifold. I cut the petrified end off the line and stuck the fresh end on- problem solved.
What I think was so interesting about this is that it never went into limp home mode. My guess is that my cable was adjusted tight enough that the opening was still matching the pedal potentiometer, so the computer never knew that I was moving the throttle and not the motor.
Weird. Anyway, I'm relieved. Last time I found something great in the junkyard I locked my keys in the car and destroyed my decor panel trying to get it open. Didn't work by the way. Since then I made a little modification so that I can no longer lock the keys in.
