I certainly understand your sentiment, and I do agree. I just wasn't sure if you were aware of the difference in the quality of oil we use here. We have to go out of our way for the equivalent of what is normal for you. On the other hand, it seems that American made cars are made with the idea that you could put any oil in them, never change it, and they will run fine for a little over 100,000 miles-- at which point they figure it will be headed to the junkyard anyway.
Don't worry about offending me- I'm not feeling very good about the US these days. In fact, I felt it was my duty to make up for all those folks who were boycotting our friends' cheese. How could I pass up Roquefort in any case? I don't think we can afford to be thin-skinned. If one is criticised unfairly, then it's appropriate to take offense. Before you get offended though, take a good look and see if the critisicm is true.
Any annoyance that you may have felt in my reply was not meant for you. It's due to the waste I see all around me. I try to conserve fuel and energy and not add to the waste stream. I even feel a little guilty about my 9000- it's pretty efficient, but I could get something more efficient. Then I look around me and see that most people are not even thinking of these issues. It truly amazes me. I literally cannot comprehend the way that we gobble up resources. This country could use a fraction of the energy that it does, and in the process it could create a lot of good jobs as part of the change of infrastructure. In any case, don't apologize for feeling uppity. If you feel we should change, tell us-- we don't hesitate to tell others what to do.
I think a lot of the problems I see here are partially due to our country's size and isolation. Most of us have never left the US, and we don't have a lot of neighbors all around us, so one isn't exposed to different views or ways of doing things. I consider myself lucky that my job brings me people from all over the world and I get to hear their take on things. Usually groups that visit my theatre are there for a week, and after the first day there's a lot of time to just sit around and talk. That's a real education for me, and one that a lot of people here never get.
