you gave me great feedback on my lack of heat concern yesterday. Since the temp gauge was low i went for the thermostat idea...the thermostat did not appear to be the issue (not stuck open) but it never hurts to change one often...
we'll the car was exceptionally low on coolant. enought to really concern me. i had my saab indie (very competant) redue a bad valve two months ago and i started to get concerned with the head gasket from his repair. the good news is there is no coolent in the oil nor any oil in the coolant...but the car was exceptionally hot to the touch. obviously coolent extremely low would not create heat fo the heating system...
i'm concerned about the "low coolant" light, becuase my girlfriend (who drives this saab) wouldn't even think about the 3 gallon pool of antifreeze under the car!
my question is: have you ever seen a "low coolant" light not operate correctly? it glows during the system check during start up. how can i test it's operability (ohm test?). it should have come on in my oppinion based on how low the coolant was.
how low? none came out of the head when i pulled the thermostat. none in the top hose and none in the radiator i could feel with my finger down the top inlet. i'm guessing i put we'l over a gallon to replenish it.
i'm curious to what coolant that low did with the 50 mile commute the 5 days. if it was not cooling at all, wouldn't you think my engine would be gone by now?
thanks.
