88 9kt parking lights ... (long)

I've been trying to solve a problem with my left front parking light, and I've run out of ideas. I did a search on the BB for "parking lights", and checked all of those suggestions. I'm in the US, which seems to be an important piece of information regarding parking lights. I would appreciate any help you guys can give me!
Here's what I'm seeing.
When I turn the headlight switch to just parking lights or to headlights, ALL parking lights come on, EXCEPT the left front lights (both orange and white are NOT illuminated).
If I signal to turn left, the LF white section illuminates steadily, and the orange section blinks at the correct tempo. When I release the turn signal, both lights go off.
Here's what I've done.
Plugged in different bulbs in both the orange and white sockets (NEW bulbs and bulbs borrowed from the taillight cluster). I took apart the wire plugs that go to the back of BOTH bulb holders and replaced wire connections that were corroded. Cleaned the corrosion with sandpaper wherever I found it. I also followed the wiring for the black (ground)wires from the bulb holders to where it was spliced in, and respliced it, since it looked slightly corroded (and this had worked for someone else).
None of what I've done has enabled the parking lights to come on at any time OTHER than the turn signal.
Any suggestions as to what else I should try?
Could I use the fog light connector to get the lights to come on (using the dash switch)?
Thanks.
