Search prior posts for the timing chain question. Rolling in a chain will not help the guides which wear and allow slack, nor the sprockets. You can check the tensioner extension by removing the inner bolt with spring, 12 mm I think, then removing the tensioner body (19 mm?). the extension won't tell you where the slack originates.
Check around for the procedure: Quasimotors or townsendimports .coms. It's not all that hard, I changed the last one I did in an afternoon and three scraped knuckles.
