Thanks to those who piped in about setting TDC last week.

Head was removed Wed. night from 6PM-2AM. Head machined and valve job Thurs & Fri. Head installed Friday night from 6PM-2AM. Took Virginia Contractors exam from 9:00AM-2:00PM Sat. Passed. Went to Eddie From OHIO at Wolftrap Sat. night. Massive shoulder cramps (from holding the head with outstretched arms for 20 minutes?) Sunday completed installation of coolant lines and accessories from 1:00PM-3:00PM. So what - 18 hours? This was of course done in the crappy driveway, at night, with a fluorescent worklight that would cut out every 3-4 hours and have to sit for 1/2 hour to cool off. Dropped the timing chain tensioner bolt and searched for that for 1 hour. Joy.

Other big screw up- after locating tensioner bolt, screwed it in and went to turn engine over and - the exhaust sprocket was left way loose, chain trying to creep over it and bind. Must take sprockets off. Engine not at TDC anymore. Must remove (well loosen most of the way) the camshaft bearing caps to let the valves all close and rotate engine back to TDC. Probably lost about 1-2 hours there. Oh well, if you get it right the first time, you don't really learn anything.

When completed on Sunday, spun engine with no plugs or fuel pump fuse to oil the engine. Installed plugs and fuse and fired her up. Runs great! So happy.

Only issue now - oil pressure is higher than prior to rebuild. I like oil pressure, but now it's about 33% higher than before. Idle used to be 15 psi, now 20 psi. Cruising highway used to be 30 psi now 40 psi. Is this from tighter clearances in the head? Cams too tight? Normal? Clogged oil passages?

Stupid me also installed every shiny new exhaust nut upside down. Maybe if I get a really free weekend I'll replace them. Not now though.

So if anyone in the DC area needs their headgasket changed...

call Viking and have them do it!!

Thanks again you guys!

-Chris
