Yes, cats can get clogged and doing what you said would help in diagnosing a clogged cat. But, cats can also be rendered useless when raw fuel is passed through them. This would not clog them, but would allow unacceptable emissions causing you to fail the test if needed in your state. Raw fuel would react with the catalyst (pellets or plates, depending upon the cat), and destroy its "catalytic" properties.
Your PCV check valve sounds fine. Which nipple did you break? The one coming out of the pass. side (with two hoses, big and small, coming out of the crankcase top), or the one on the driver's side (which is metal and part of the intake manifold)?
Try resetting the CEL whichever way you want, and see if the O2 sensor codes come back on. If they do, remove them and cook the tips with a propane torch to burn off whatever junk might be on them, then re-install and reset the CEL again. If that doesn't work, then you probably need new ones, again due to the fact that you might have been running with a rich mixture (for however long) and the sensors are shot.
This is just my thoughts, maybe someone else can think of something(?).
