Rear seat post

To gain access to the rear shocks on my 91 9kt, I removed the rear seat post. This is the piece located just below the rear C pillar that is used to lock the top portion of the rear seat into place. Anyway, after removing the post, the mounting plate, which also serves as the nut for the assembly, dropped down. I am not able to secure this mounting plate so that I can re-install the post assembly with the carpet in place.
Any help with this would be appreciated. I was going to try using duct tape (or something similar) to secure the mounting plate.
Thanks!
Dan
