I don't think that you can "trick" the car into overboosting by overshortening the wastegate rod. The car's adaptive electronics will intervene in this case, and will actually "average" the boost downwards to keep the knock down, resulting in a cumulative sense of the car LACKING boost. So, the more you tweak the wastegate rod hoping for full-turbo drama, the more you're actually reducing the boost you can expect. Hope that makes sense.
I could be wrong on that point, but that seems to be my understanding of the base boost setting procedures for Trionic cars, as described in the documents on the TownsendImports.com technical site.
The bucking Sam's experiencing sounds to me like the first culprit would be the overboost/fuel cutoff switch. I haven't dealt with one of these yet, but if it's faulty it can result in the car tripping the cutoff early, with the resultant neck-snapping phenomenon. I believe Aeros are classically susceptible to this bug, no doubt a by-product of age. Perhaps the fuel pressure regulator could contribute as well, if it's not holding pressure?
Interested in others' thoughts here.
