Yes, it is true that on the Trionic cars, messing with the wastegate actuator rod length ends up in 'negative adaptation'. But the Trionic can only modify boost via the (BPC) wastegate, fuel, and timing. If the wastegate has been messed with, the BPC route is out - only fuel and timing remain. I would believe that the Trionic would still control boost, but the methods wouldn't be very smooth.
The Trionic cars don't have a fuel-cutoff switch like the older LH units. That switch could get flaky, and you could even adjust it. The Trionic cars use the MAP reading to determine boost and to invoke fuel-cutoff.
That's why I figure a bad MAP sensor would wreak havoc here.
A bad FPR could fail to provide sufficient fuel flow under boost, which would result in lean running and potential misfiring. That could be an issue - checking the spark plugs for signs of leanness would be a good idea.
