You can't mesh it up by opening it, the battery....

won't fall out.
To open the remote, if it's your first time, take the key ring off the remote for a clearer view. Look at the inside top part of the remote "eye". You see a three slits at the top. Get a screw driver of appropriate size. Put the screw driver blade into the top (horizontal) slit and twist. The battery cover should come off easily.
Look at the markings on the battery and that would be your replacement. You need two of those flat disc batteries. Last time I got the batteries from a dealer and they weren't overcharging me either, just at regular retail 8-).
After you put the new batteries in and close everything up, point your remote toward the car and click the remote button three times (no I kid you not 8-) (and repeat "there is no place like home" is optional) to sync up with your car.
